Getting into a lather

Have I ever mentioned how I hate commercial soaps? Well, some are better than others, but generally I find they don't play too nicely with my sensitive skin. And an awful lot of them are still not bunny friendly (you have to watch this, because they often say "this product is not tested on animals", but that doesn't mean that the ingredients haven't been either, or that it hasn't been made by a company that is a bit mean about putting crap in animals' eyes).

So, I tend to buy handmade soaps from nice people who only put nice things in their products. My favourites are Lush and Tigermuffin.

And now there's Marmadaisy! Actually no, I'm not going to sell these because you have to get all sorts of health and safety regs sorted out and I don't think my kitchen full of dog hair and Aga dust would quite cut the mustard.

It has taken me the morning to whip up batches of:

Magic Love Spell (lilac coloured) - a blend of jasmine, ylang ylang and rose with real grated nutmeg

Patchouli (pink) - you either love it or hate it

Gardener's soap (green) - Tea tree and Aloe Vera, especially for use after gardening or emptying the bin (blech)

Citronella (yellow) - fresh and lemony and great for keeping the midgies away

They came out a bit more bubblegummy coloured than I wanted.Perhaps it was because I used an opaque base. I love how they look though, like little cakes. I have just washed my hands with the tea tree one and they smell lovely and feel quite moisturised. I really will have to get making more of these. I think I have just found my new favourite hobby!

By the way, NOTHING in these soaps is tested on animals, unless one of the dogs rolls in something this afternoon and then they might very well get a dose of tea tree bathing.

I have been thinking of doing another giveaway for my birthday (which is in about 2 weeks) - so I would love some feedback on whether a couple of soaps would be enough to tempt people to comment. (Because there's nothing worse than saying "comment for this draw" and then nobody does)

Ooooo - that tea tree one sounds lovely. I don't use regular soap at all because its just sets me off into an itching frenzy. At the moment I'm using that Pears stuff, which I don't think actual has any soap in at all.

Give away soaps would get a thumbs up from me. But I don't think I count, as I always comment anyway. Even if I don't have anything interesting to say ;)

The flower soaps are wonderful looking and I bet they smell good too.

I would comment for a chance to be clean....

I love those flower soaps, I have exactly the same problem because I have really dry skin, I can't use commercial soaps (even Body Sho dries out my skin) I love Lush. Obviously the pink one is good for me (I love pink) but the lilac one looks nice too!
I love the idea of these giveaways!

Now that's exactly why I'm far too scared to do a giveaway myself :)

I like the paw prints on the soaps, and I love the idea of tea tree and aloe vera, if only because the new cat hasn't quite figured out to keep his claws in when he plays with the humans

WoW. Amazing. I've wanted to make soap for soooo long but never quite get round to it .. well that's apart from the fact that I don't really use it anyway for anything buy my hands (allergic) though obviously Mr, and Mstr (entering puberty - yuk smelly boy) do. I do love handmade soap and yours look lovely - much nicer looking than Lush's too.

The soaps look gorgeous! I too, prefer handmade soap, especially for my son who has sensitive skin.

And yes, I would be tempted to comment, but I think I have probably used up all my good luck for a while after winning your OWOH giveaway. BTW, I'm wearing the ring right now!! Love it :)

Sounds fantastic...
Now no one could ever suggest you weren't squeaky clean ;)
How could anyone not want to be clean anyway?

I have just realised what those soaps remind me of...fondant fancy sweets! My mother always put them on birthday cakes so they have very happy associations for me.

these are beautiful, what a great project! I used to live in London, and I adored Lush, went there almost everday just to be surrounded by the smells, the sopas, and the natural beauty of it all.
